OVERVIEW:

Creating new voice sets for FS2Crew products is very easy!

We recommend using a simple USB headset when recording.  Complex headsets with hubs and advanced microphones can sometimes cause problems with the Recording tool.

IMPORTANT NOTE 1:

IF THE RECORDING TOOL IS SLOWING (BOGGING) DOWN OVER TIME, RESTART IT AFTER EVERY 20 to 30 RECORDINGS.

IF YOU NOTICE YOUR VOICE SOUNDS DISTORTED DURING AUTO PLAYBACK, YOU CAN USUALLY DISREGARD IT.

PLEASE CHECK THE ACTUAL OUTPUT SOUND IN THE “TEST” FOLDER TO SEE HOW YOUR AUDIO ACTUALLY SOUNDS.

IMPORTANT NOTE 2:

IF RECORDING MULTIPLE ROLES, DO NOT MERGE THE OUTPUT FILES FROM THE ‘TEST FOLDER’ ASSOCIATED WITH EACH ROLE INTO A SINGLE TEST FOLDER WHEN SENDING US THE FILES.

IF YOU DO THAT, THE FILES FOR EACH ROLE WILL BE MIXED, AND IT WILL BE IMPOSSIBLE FOR US TO SEPARATE THEM.

INSTRUCTIONS:

STEP 1: Record your new voice set!

CLICK TO DOWNLOAD THE VOICE RECORDING TOOL
  • The installer will run silently.  A new icon will appear on your desktop.
  • Launch the Recording Tool via the new icon.
  • Select the desired project from the menu on the left:

  • Press the Mic icon to start/stop recording each line. You can also use the “S” key on your keyboard to stop (but not start the recording).  This is helpful in case your microphone is picking up mouse-clicking sounds.
  • You can cycle through the various on-screen elements using TAB/ SHIFT TAB.
  • Press the PLAY button to listen to each recording to check for quality.
  • It is important to record everything in a single session to ensure voice consistency concerning tone, voice texture, etc.
  • Ensure no ambient background sound is present (air conditioning, etc.)
  • You can search for text and adjust the list sort order:

  • You can access the output folder where the sounds are saved by clicking the folder icon:

  • If you’re not sure what speaking style to use, watch cockpit videos on YouTube.  Speak smoothly and a bit quickly.  Do not overpronounce each word or you will sound robotic.

PRO TIP: TO KEEP THE RECORDING TOOL HAPPY, RESTART THE APP AFTER EVERY 50 RECORDINGS IF YOU FIND THE APP STARTS SLOWING DOWN.

  • Your recordings will be saved to an audio test folder.  Here’s an example using the Fenix version of FS2Crew:

    C:Program Files (x86)FS2Crew Fenix A320 for MSFS->bin-> Audio->CAPT->TEST

STEP 2: TEST AND POLISH YOUR VOICE SET!

  1. You must test your own sound set for mistakes and quality!
  2. You can use audio tools like ADOBE AUDITION or any other audio tool to edit your sound files.
  3. Try removing any dead air at the beginning and end of your recordings, especially for the numbers.
  4. You can listen to your recordings live in the simulation by selecting “VOICE RECORDER TEST” for the crew accent.

STEP 3: SHARE YOUR WORK WITH OTHERS!  SEND US YOUR RECORDINGS!

  1. When done, send us a support ticket via the CONTACT US” page on the FS2Crew Website.  We will send you instructions on how to send us your files.

We suggest using WETRANSFER to send us the recordings; it’s a free file sending service.

  2. We will check your sound files and distribute them in the next update for the associated product!
  3. Remember if recording multiple roles do NOT merge the contents of the TEST folder for each role into a single TEST folder before sending.  Please keep the recordings separate for each role, otherwise it will be impossible for us to separate the sound files by role if they are mixed together.  Send each role separately!
